Privacy Policy

Bisplit is a shared-expense app for splitting costs within a group. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, who it is shared with, and how to have it deleted. It applies to the Bisplit mobile app and the Bisplit web app.
1. Information we collect
- Account information. Your email address, display name and profile photo, taken from the sign-in method you choose: Google, Apple, email and password, or a guest session.
- Group and financial data. Groups you create or join, expenses, splits, payments, settlement requests, and the balances derived from them.
- Receipt images and receipt text. If you scan a receipt, the image is uploaded to our storage and its text is extracted so the amount, merchant and line items can be filled in for you.
- AI insights usage. If you request AI spending insights, we send our AI provider a summary of your group's spending: totals, trends, category and member breakdowns (including group members' names and their individual spending totals), and the names, amounts and dates of the largest or most unusual expenses and merchants in the period you selected. We do not send your full, line-by-line expense list or any receipt images.
- Push notification tokens. A device token so we can notify you about invitations, expenses and settlements.
- Diagnostics. Crash reports and basic device and app information, linked to your account so we can investigate faults you report, collected automatically from app start and used to fix faults and prevent abuse.
2. How we use it
- To operate core features: groups, expenses, balances, settlements and invitations.
- To fill in expense details from a receipt you choose to scan.
- To generate the optional AI spending insights you explicitly request.
- To send notifications about activity in your groups.
- To keep your account secure and enforce reasonable usage limits.
3. Who can see your data
Group data โ expenses, payments, balances, settlement requests and receipts attached to them โ is visible to the other members of that group. That is the purpose of a shared-expense app. Your display name and profile photo are visible to members of groups you share. Your email address is not shown to other members. We do not sell your personal data and we do not use it for advertising.
4. Third-party processors
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud. Authentication, database, file storage, push notifications, crash reporting and hosting for our backend.
- Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple. If you choose to sign in with a Google or Apple account, that provider authenticates you directly and shares your name, email and profile photo with us; we never receive your password.
- Google Cloud Vision. Extracts the text from a receipt image when you use receipt scanning.
- Groq. Interprets the extracted receipt text into structured fields, and generates the optional AI spending summary from the spending summary described in section 1, including named individual expenses, merchants and group members.
Each of these processors is required to protect your data to the same or an equivalent standard as this policy.
Text extracted from a receipt is used to produce the structured expense fields and is not stored on your expense record or returned to the app.
5. Guest accounts
You can join a group through an invitation link without creating a full account. A guest session is still an account: it holds the groups you joined and the expenses you recorded. If you later sign in with Google, Apple or an email address, that history carries over to the new sign-in method. If you never upgrade a guest session and lose access to the device, the data cannot be recovered, because there is no verified identity to restore it to.
6. Retention and deletion
You can delete your account at any time from Settings inside the app, or by requesting deletion at bisplit.app/account/delete. Deletion removes your profile, your sign-in, your profile photo, your notification tokens and the receipt images you uploaded.
Expenses and payments you contributed to a shared group remain part of that group's financial history, shown against a removed user, because deleting them would silently change what other members owe each other. If you need those records removed as well, contact us and we will work through it with the affected group.
7. Security
Data is stored behind security rules that restrict access to the account owner and to members of the relevant group. Writes go through an authenticated backend that validates every request against your verified identity.
8. Your choices
- Update your display name and photo from Settings at any time.
- Turn off notifications from your device settings.
- Decline receipt scanning and enter expenses manually.
- Leave a group to stop taking part in it.
- Delete your account, in the app or through the link above.
9. Children
Bisplit is not directed to children and is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product changes. Material changes will be reflected in the date at the top of this page.
